This article is here just to show the difference between the modes of setting up your orchards. For more details on setting up orchards (and vineyards) see the Related Articles below
When to use Multi-Variety Mode
When a Block CAN'T be split up into nice chunks of contiguous rows of uniform Crop+Variety (or if you want to include Rootstock Crop+Variety+Rootstock).
If your Block CAN'T be split up into nice chunks of contiguous rows of uniform Crop+Variety (or if you want to include Rootstock Crop+Variety+Rootstock), then you can define every row individually.
What if one row has more than one Crop+Variety(+Rootstock)?
Create row sections..
e.g. Row 20A has 150 plants of ABC, Row 20B has 230 plants of XYZ
When to use Standard Mode
When a Block CAN be split up into nice chunks of contiguous rows of uniform Crop+Variety (or if you want to include Rootstock Crop+Variety+Rootstock).
for example... Section 1 .. 25 rows of ABCSection 2 .. 43 rows of XYZ
Section 3 .. 15 rows of FOO
Of course if a Block is all of one Crop+Variety(+Rootstock) then you would naturally use Standard Mode.
Irregular shaped Blocks
If your Block is an irregular shape, you can create Sections of contagious row length
e.g.
Section 1 .. 25 rows of 150m Section 2 .. 43 rows of 100mSection 3 .. 15 rows of rows from 100m - 50m (agCommander can work out the row length of the intermediate rows for you)
Most clients will set up their orchards in standard mode

A Multi-Variety set up enables you to define each row with all the details that are shared with all rows in the Standard Mode above. You might use Multi-Variety Mode if there are rows of different varieties or even different crops for pollination purposes, or if you renovate some orchard rows in a season and not others. For example, you remove every second tree on some rows and not others.
Here is what a Multi-Variety set up looks like
