Using a Tru-Test stick reader with the agCommander app

You can connect a Tru-Test stick reader to the agCommander mobile app over Bluetooth. When you scan an animal's EID tag with the reader, the tag number goes straight into the app, with no typing.

What you need
  • A Tru-Test SRS2i or XRS2i stick reader.
  • The latest version of the agCommander app (or the DazTag app) from the App Store or Google Play, on an iPhone, iPad or Android phone or tablet.
Older readers: the original SRS2 and XRS2 (without the "i") use an older type of Bluetooth and can't be connected to the app.

Where you can use it

  • DazTag > Fit Tag: scan the animal's EID and the matching CERES TAG opens, ready to fit.
  • IAR: finding an animal by its tag, and entering the tag on a new animal.

Set up the reader and your phone

  1. Switch the reader on and make sure its Bluetooth is turned on (in the reader's Bluetooth menu).
  2. Turn Bluetooth on on your phone or tablet.
  3. Don't pair the reader in your phone's Bluetooth settings. The app connects to it directly. If you've already paired it there, "forget" it in the phone's settings.
  4. Keep the reader close to the phone while you connect.

Connect the reader in the app

  1. Open a screen that uses the reader (for example Fit Tag).
  2. Tap Connect Stick Reader. The app looks for readers nearby for about 15 seconds.
  3. Readers show by name, for example XRS2i 1234. The number is the last four digits of the reader's serial number. Tap yours.
  4. The first time, your phone asks for permission. Allow Bluetooth (iPhone/iPad) or Nearby devices (Android).
  5. When it's connected, the reader's name is shown with a Disconnect option.
The reader stays connected while you move around the app. It disconnects when you tap Disconnect, switch the reader off or go out of range. To connect again, tap Connect Stick Reader.

Scanning tags

With the reader connected, just scan the animal's tag. The tag number appears in the app as it's read, for example 982 123456789012.

When Adding new Animals

  • The New Animal form now shows the Connect Stick Reader bar at the top.

  • With the reader connected, scanning a tag fills in Electronic ID, for example “982 123456789012”.

  • If that tag is already on another animal, a “Tag already in use” message names the animal (“This tag is already on {Visual ID}”), and the field is left as it was.

  • Editing an existing animal: the IDs are read-only there, so the bar doesn’t show and scans are ignored.

Troubleshooting
