To export animal data, navigate to IAR > Data Exchange > Export Data. Here you can create, edit, copy or delete export formats.
Each page will check that its data is correct before allowing you to proceed to the next.
The "Save Format" button is enabled on each page. It will save the values you have entered, without validating it first. When you get to the last page and press the button to export the data, the format will be saved automatically before the export occurs.

When you add or edit an export format, you will first be prompted to enter a format name and the type of export file you want to create. If you are editing a format, only the name can be changed.

The next page is where you setup your export columns.

Each column requires a type. The types are:
- Animal - Various lifetime values, such as Visual ID, Electronic ID, Date of Birth, etc.
- Trait - Any trait you have added into the system. If you select a trait that can be recorded multiple times for each animal, the most recent value will be used.
- Trait Date - The most recent date for the selected trait for each animal.
- Weight - Any weight name that you have added into the system. The most recent weight that matches the selected weight's date range for each animal will be used.
- Weight Date - Similar to Trait Date, but for the selected weight.
- Constant - Any constant value.
You will have different options under "Field / Constant Value", depending on the type you have selected. For a constant, you can enter its value here.
"Column Headings" is, well, exactly that. Column headings will be mandatory if you have the "Include headings" option ticked or if you are exporting to an XML file; otherwise you can leave them blank. Column headings must be unique.
When "Quote?" is ticked for a column, the value for that column will be wrapped in either single (') or double (") quotes. The quote style you want to use will be selected on the next page.
"Default Value" is used where there is no data available for that column for an animal. This value can left be blank.
If you selected to export to a fixed width format, you will also see a "Width" column. Enter the max number of characters for each column in the export file. Any data greater than this width will be truncated.
Next, you can select other options for this format.

"Quote character" can be either a single quote (') or a double quote ("). This applies to any column that you have ticked "Quote?".
"Yes/No Text" applies to any Boolean data you are exporting. Select the appropriate export values for "Yes" and "No".
"Date Format" will be applied to any date values you are exporting.
"Sex Text" applies when you include animals' sex in the export.
The final page allows you to choose which animals you want to include in the export.

When you have selected the animals, press the "Export" button. As noted above, the export format will first be saved, then the data will be exported. Note that your animal selections are not saved with the export format.
The resulting file will be saved into the 'download' folder, as configured for your PC/browser.
