Printing Maps 1

agCommander's mapping system uses the google maps API as the underlying map "engine".
New as of December 2023. We introduced a new option "Download Map as an Image"
Please check this Knowledge Base article as well
PLEASE NOTE that the google maps API does not have any support for printing maps. The printing facilities in agCommander have been added by our team, albeit limited by what we have to work with.
Some people have found that the best way to get a printed map is to use a screen snipping tool to mark the area of the map they want to print and then paste that as an image into a Word document.
We have added a special map background in agCommander for those occasions when you are not wanting any background on your printed map.

In agCommander you will find a map printing button on most of the map views and in the Mapping Module, look for the printing options on the "Tools" menu.
You will find two choices for the map area to be printed. One is to use the entire map window that you have one your screen at the time and the other is to use a specific area of the map. That is, you can draw a rectangle around a section of the map on the screen for printing purposes. See the purple rectangle in the image below

The Print Preview screen enables you to pan and zoom the map to get the best outcome when printing.
PLEASE NOTE that the google maps API has zoom steps. In most areas of the planet, that is 20 steps. agCommander has no control over those steps. It's unfortunate that sometimes the ideal zoom scale would be halfway between one zoom step and another. That is why some people simply use a screen snipping tool to copy the exact area they need for printing, then paste that as an image into a Word document.

When ready, click on the "Print" button which will take you to the print preview window of your internet browser where you can adjust the scale and paper orientation to suit your needs. Use the Scale option to make your map fully fill the printed page. Note below, I had to set the scale to 80 to make it fit perfectly.

Alternative ways to print a Map
Sometimes the above may not work due to printer driver issues and/or system setup.
For Windows 10 and 11 you can use either Snip and Sketch or Snipping tool which can be downloaded via the Microsoft app store to do a screen grab and either print the grabbed image or paste it into a Microsoft Word or Google docs document to add annotations, descriptions, etc.
It is recommended to use Snip and Sketch as it is more reliable and has a few more features.
Snipping Tool download can be found here (though some Windows installations may already have it installed): https://apps.microsoft.com/store/detail/snipping-tool/9MZ95KL8MR0L?hl=en-us&gl=us
Snip and Sketch : https://snip-sketch.en.softonic.com/
For Apple Macs, use the Shift-command-4 keys to do a screen grab in a similar way as with Windows 10 or 11 snipping tools.
