You want to draw some new map objects ... but you haven't got a layer set up for them yet.
Step 1: Click and highlight either the Layer Group or any Layer within the Layer Group
Step 2: Click on the [Manage] button and choose Layer > New Layer

Step 3: Set up the Layer Object Type, Layer Name, and any defaults you want to set up for the objects you are going to create for that layer.
I am setting up a layer of Points for a Layer called "Gates"
Please Note
The names I will assign to my Gates as I add them to the map will be used as labels automatically.
I am setting them to display at an angle of 45 degrees, a size of 2 & I want those labels to stop displaying when I zoom out to the point where the scale is 80m per pixel. The size and hide labels settings will vary depending on the scale of your farm. Once you get familiar with these settings you can set them the same for all your new layers.
Choose a default Icon, Colour & Opacity. I'd use an opacity of 1 for symbols.

Save the new layer.
Now... to add Gate Symbols to my Gates Layer...
Step 4: Make sure you have the right layer selected (Tick On, Layer Highlighted ... see below) ... and then click on the Add button

As we're adding a symbol, you just have to ensure that you click on the map in the correct spot. (You can move symbols around on the map later if you need to).
So ...
Step 5: click on the spot where your symbol needs to go and you will see this form pop up... Where you can name the symbol & enter a description.
Click Save & the form will close revealing your symbol

Move your mouse over the new object & when you see the pointing finger mouse cursor, click to pop up the information window
