Management Zones to Variable Rate map

Using Crop Analytics

Management Zones (MZs) are created in the Crop Analytics module by
  • first choosing a field, then
  • "locking it in", then
  • switching to Management Zone mode, then
  • working through the Management Zone wizard to create a layer of polygons
Below are screen shots of working through the wizard...
Steps:
  1. choose how many unique zones you want the process to create for you
  2. choose the range of years that the system will use to generate the zones. The system uses NDVI images from your specified timing for your specified number of years.
  3. to set the timing of the NDVI imagery that the system will use to generate the zones, choose the month of the year and the stage of the month. For example, you might want to choose early in the growing season when there is less vegetation or later in the season when there is a lot o vegetation.
  4. some of the advanced options are enabled by default, you may choose to enable other options.

Clicking on the "Next" button will start the process. The images that the system will use will now be downloaded for you to preview.

Looking at the images, I figured that the one from 2023 was an outlier, so I clicked on the trash can icon to remove it from the process, then clicked "Next". That tiggers the  processing of the imagery and when that is done, you will see the MZs preview...

At this point you can choose to add more zones or drop the number of zones down using the slider at the top of the dialog and then clicking on the refresh button.

If you are satisfied with the polygons, click the "Create" button.

The MZ project will then be displayed at the bottom of the screen as a thumbnail. Any previously created MZs will be displayed across the bottom of the screen.

Click on the thumbnail to overlay the layer over the main map, then click on the Legend side panel to display the legend.

At the bottom of the legend you will see the "Save for Variable Rate Projects" button.
Click that if you want to use the generated MZs for a VR recipe map.

By doing that your MZ layer will be added to the layers under the relevant farm in the Mapping module as shown here.

Creating a VR prescription

Creating variable rate prescription maps is done in the Season View of the Cropping Module.

If any field has had a MZ layer created for it either by using the MZ system in the Cop Analytics module, or by importing a MZ layer form another program or by drawing it manually will display a special icon on the Farm-Field tree, as shown below.

Clicking on that special icon will display the view shown below which display the VR projects for the selected Field for the Season.

Click on the "Add" button to create a VR project for currently selected Field, for the currently selected Season.

There is a dedicated Knowledge Base article that walk through this process. Click here to view
